The Cooks and Bakers Club at Delcastle Technical High School in Wilmington, Delaware is a crowd-drawing, volunteer cooking troupe that brings the kitchen experience to young children. All around northern Delaware, from public events like the Farmer and the Chef to private catering events, the Cooks and Bakers club provides real-world experiences in the art and science of the culinary world for our young chefs.
The Cooks and Bakers club began in an effort to supplement student preparation for state and national cooking competitions. As the club grew, it quickly developed a focus on ‘service learning.’ Delcastle Cooks and Bakers strive to provide students with experiences that both hone their own craft and allow them to provide service to others. We have a full calendar for the 2017-2018 school year that allows the students to experience cooking in many, diverse environments. Over the course of the year, Delcastle students will work with local vendors and chefs, children in the community, and national and international chefs. All of these experiences remain focused on our two goals: service and learning.
Location: B100
Hours of Operation: Daily for Grab-and-Go selections / Wednesday – Friday for full service
Please check this page for weekly updates as the school schedule sometimes necessitates adjustments to the cafe schedule.
Delcastle Culinary Arts strives to prepare our students to meet and exceed the demands of the foodservice industry. To accomplish this, we expose our students to a variety of skills in a classroom setting on Mondays and Fridays and in a restaurant setting Tuesdays – Thursdays. In the restaurant, students prepare everything from the homemade bread that starts a meal, the dressings on the salad, the weekly soups, and the sauces that top the grill and entree selections. Students also participate in menu creation and rotate through all stations throughout each school year. We ask our guest to remember that this is a learning environment for the students and we appreciate your support, patience, and understanding with the students as they master their craft.
