"Build It Better" Leadership Summit Inspires Cougars

Delcastle Technical High held its annual "Build It Better" Leadership Summit on Friday, March 17, 2023. The event was split into two parts - a morning session at the Sharp Center and an afternoon session at Urban Air Adventure Park. The event was designed to provide Delcastle student-leaders with valuable leadership training and teamwork-building exercises.

The morning session was kicked off by district superintendent Dr. Joseph Jones, who said, "Leadership is not just about being in charge, it's about empowering others to be their best selves." Delcastle principal Dr. Justin Comegys added, "Leadership is not a title or position, it's a mindset and a way of life."

Students were also given the opportunity to hear from guest speakers who provided real-world examples of successful leadership in action. One student, Rocco Zayas, said, "The most memorable moment was working in groups to build the sticks together into a shape. This taught me the value of more communication with others and support." Celeste Hinds highlighted her favorite part of the summit, saying, "Definitely the team building. Delcastle leaders can help improve the school community by using our voices to encourage everyone to be a part of the movement to make the school its best."

Angeliss Davila summarized her experience by saying, "Leadership is important because you take action on your own instead of following others while also bettering yourself. It is important to invest in ourselves to be better since our whole future is relying on ourselves. If you aren't in the right mindset and rely too much on others you won't get anywhere, it is important to take leadership to ensure your future is great." Chloe Cresswell added, "Everyone at the summit can use these skills to speak out within the community and make sure that changes are truly made throughout the school."

Overall, the "Build It Better" Leadership Summit was a great success, providing Delcastle student-leaders with the tools and inspiration to become effective leaders in their school and beyond.
