Get ready for an evening of laughter, heartache, and a little Northern magic as the Delcastle Drama Club brings the critically acclaimed play “Almost, Maine” to life on the Delcastle stage this December.
Directed by Mr. Robert Ritter and Mr. Nick Carey, this year’s fall production invites audiences into a whimsical winter night in the fictional town of Almost, where nine short stories explore the many layers of love and loss. Beneath the northern lights, characters fall in and out of love, stumble through heartbreak, and discover what it means to connect in unexpected ways.
“The stories showcase life, love, and loss,” said Ritter. “What I hope audiences walk away with is the message that all of life’s moments—both big and small—are meant to be cherished.”
From Page to Performance
What makes this year’s show even more special? The students. According to Ritter, the magic is in how the cast has taken ownership of their roles.
“The cast has not only embraced the characters—they’ve added their own twist,” he said. “They’ve made the show something entirely unique.”
For ninth grader Ceirra Deighan '29, stepping onstage has been about pushing personal boundaries.
“I wanted to try something new and put myself out there,” she shared. “What I enjoy most is getting to perform and express myself.”
Nova DeShields '27, a Digital Media student, connected deeply with his character, Lendall.
“I loved how Lendall has real love hidden in his heart,” he said.
And for Neila Stansell '29, the experience has been a dream realized.
“Being a part of 'Almost, Maine' is a blessing. I've always wanted to be a actor in my life, and just being able to be apart of this is so amazing.”
A Cast That’s Grown Together
Through long rehearsals, quiet bonding moments, and lots of laughter, this group has grown into a true ensemble.
“A memorable moment for me is definitely meeting the friends I have now,” said Ceirra. “Laughing even while it's pitch black outside during early rehearsals.”
“Someone shared a personal story one night,” recalled Neila, “and we all realized that—even with our differences—we’d all been through something similar. We just clicked.”
Why You Should Come See the Show
This production isn’t just a performance—it’s a labor of love. The cast has poured time, energy, and emotion into every scene, and they’re eager to share it with the Delcastle community.
“We've worked hard as an entire team to make it look well-improved,” said Neila. “We’ve done the max to make this show amazing for everyone.”
“People should come because it’s genuinely one of the best plays I’ve seen,” added Ceirra. “It’s complexly written and emotionally beautiful.”
