Serving with Purpose: Delcastle Student Leaders Expand Community Impact for the 2025 National Day of Service

The spirit of service is alive and growing at Delcastle Technical High School. In observance of the 2025 National Day of Service, Delcastle student leaders stepped outside the classroom and into the community, executing a coordinated effort to support neighbors, first responders, and vulnerable populations across the region.

This year’s initiative marked a significant expansion of Delcastle’s commitment to community engagement. What began last year as a targeted service trip to The Vero Assisted Living Facility in Newark grew into a multi-faceted operation involving five distinct leadership organizations and dozens of motivated students.

"Watching the National Day of Service initiative grow from a single location last year to this widespread community embrace is truly inspiring," said Anthony Tiberi, Student Activities Coordinator at Delcastle. "Our students didn't just show up; they planned, organized, and led these projects with genuine heart. They aren't just learning about leadership in a textbook; they are demonstrating it by actively improving the lives of others in New Castle County."

Our student leaders fanned out across the area to tackle diverse service projects:

Supporting Seniors and the Unhoused The Student Council returned to The Vero Assisted Living Facility in Newark. In a beautiful intergenerational effort, students worked alongside residents to assemble care packages destined for the Friendship House and the Sunday Breakfast Mission. Meanwhile, members of the Pride/GSA spent their day volunteering directly on-site at the Friendship House, providing essential support to the organization's daily operations.

Appreciating First Responders and Veterans In a joint effort to recognize those who protect and serve, both Student Council and SkillsUSA members delivered festive candy cane care-grams to every member of the Newark Police Department and the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company. Furthermore, SkillsUSA students focused on supporting veterans by assembling dedicated mental health packages for Warriors Helping Warriors.

Stocking Pantries and Providing Comfort Educators Rising and Leading Ladies combined forces at the Rosehill Community Center. These leaders made a tangible impact by unloading food deliveries, stocking the community food pantry, decorating the center, and itemizing clothing donations for the "Bacon Boutique" located inside the facility.

Simultaneously, the National Honor Society visited Harbor Chase Assisted Living Facility. They spent the day knotting fleece blankets and wrapping them with ribbons, preparing them for donation to Project Comfort to provide warmth and security to those in need.

Finally, our HOSA Chapter volunteered at the Nemours Children's Hospital.

Delcastle Technical High School is immensely proud of these young leaders. Their willingness to plan, show up, and work hard for the betterment of others exemplifies the true meaning of the National Day of Service and highlights Delcastle’s role as a hub for developing community-minded citizens.
