Celebrating Excellence: Delcastle Cougars Recognized at NCCVT District Board Meeting

On the evening of December 15, the Delcastle Technical High School community gathered in the Media Center for a special NCCVT District Board Meeting. It was a night dedicated to recognizing student excellence, community service, and the career milestones of our dedicated staff.

Student Leadership and Voices The evening was guided by special guest emcee Annia Medina (Technical Drafting '26). As Student Council President, Annia shared inspiring reflections on her time serving the student body and her personal growth as a leader within the Delcastle community.

National Awards and Scholarships The Board honored two Class of 2026 students who have turned their technical training into substantial real-world success:

  • George Smallwood (Digital Media '26): George was recognized for his "High School Emerging Storyteller" award at the Wilmington International Film Festival. His short film submission earned him a remarkable full-ride scholarship to Wilmington University.

  • Marcos Leon-Gonzalez (Technical Drafting '26): Marcos was celebrated as the National First-Place Winner of the Autodesk Make It Home Challenge. His project, titled "Fundamento Modular," earned him the top submission nationwide and a $10,000 prize. Marcos designed a practical housing solution to support a community experiencing housing instability. His design utilized a concrete frame with factory-built units to make construction faster and more affordable. To complete this professional-grade work, Marcos utilized Revit to model the building systems and Twinmotion for final visualizations.

Service and Spirit The meeting also highlighted Delcastle’s commitment to service. We recognized the collaboration between the Fire Science & Rescue program and U.S. History instructors for organizing Delcastle's first Stair Climb Challenge. This moving event honored the first responders who gave their lives on September 11th.

Additionally, we celebrated the founding of the Delcastle Key Club. As one of the first chapters established in the state, this student-led organization is poised to make a difference under the guidance of advisor Jasmin Black.

Celebrating Dedicated Service Finally, the Delcastle family took a moment to express deep gratitude to three retiring staff members who have left an indelible mark on our school:

  • Adrianne Quarles, Assistant Principal

  • Joan Wilkie, School Nurse

  • Eric Mouton, Marshallton Campus Front Desk

We thank them for their years of unwavering dedication and wish them the very best in their next chapters.
