HOSA Students Promote Oral Health Through Community Awareness Event

As part of the HOSA Community Awareness competition, Delcastle Technical High School’s Dental Assisting juniors partnered with Academia Alonso to promote oral health education among kindergarten students, demonstrating leadership, service, and a commitment to community wellness.

The HOSA team visited a kindergarten classroom and delivered an engaging lesson focused on the importance of oral hygiene. Through interactive activities, students learned proper brushing and flossing techniques while gaining an early understanding of how daily habits support long-term health.

For many of the Dental Assisting students, the experience was both meaningful and eye-opening.

“Teaching kindergarten students about oral hygiene through our event was such a great experience,” said Mia Saenz, Dental Assisting ’27. “Seeing them excited to learn really showed me how important early dental care is.”

The impact of the visit was felt by both the young learners and the HOSA members leading the lesson.

“It was very impactful and overall, a great experience for us and the kids,” shared Paul Anderson, Dental Assisting ’27.

Another student emphasized the level of engagement and curiosity shown by the kindergarten students.

“It was a great experience,” said Quetzaly Avila Bedolla, Dental Assisting ’27. “It was great to see the kids so engaged and interested in learning about how to take better care of their teeth.”

This Community Awareness event highlights how Delcastle students apply their technical training beyond the classroom—using their skills to educate, inspire, and positively impact the community. Through HOSA, students continue to develop as compassionate leaders and future health professionals.
