Delcastle Wellness Center
Welcome to your School Based Health Center/SBHC (Wellness Center) at Delcastle Technical High School. This center has been established specifically to make quality health care available to teens. The SBHC is operated by a partnership that includes Christiana Care, New Castle County Vo-Tech School District, and the Delaware Division of Public Health.
Our facility is available to all 9th through 12th graders who attend Delcastle Technical High School.

Our Goals
Wellness Center Goals
Improve students’ knowledge and access to preventive health care.
Promoting the development of healthy behaviors by offering Medical, Mental Health, Nutritional, and community outreach services to students during the school day.
Promote on-going comprehensive health care to students.
Detect signs of emotional stress and psychological problems experienced by our students and provide or refer for mental health services.
Wellness Center Registration
To allow your child to use the Wellness Center, you (parent/guardian) will need to complete the Consent and Registration form.
- If we have one already on file, it is good for all four years at Delcastle and does not need to be filled out again.
- We cannot provide services to your child unless your signature is on the form (unless those services are authorized by State Law).
You can register in several ways:

We cannot provide services to your child unless your signature is on the form. Specific reproductive health services are optional; please see registration form.
Wellness Center Services
Nurse Practitioner/Physician:
Completes a physical for sports (form below), job or college or a routine physical
Gives immunizations and Tuberculosis Skin Tests (TB)
Treats minor illnesses and injuries
Gives information about your health concerns
Does rapid strep tests
Screens for and treats sexually transmitted diseases
Does pregnancy tests
Provides Reproductive Health (birth control pills/condoms)

Social Worker/Counselor:
Listens to you without judgment
Provides counseling for social and emotional concerns
Provides information about mental health
Screens for psychological issues
Helps you to make positive changes in your life
Meets with other family members if desired
Helps make outside referrals if indicated
Works with parents and teachers if desired
Runs therapy and education groups
Dietitian:
Works with you on weight concerns
Develops a plan for healthy eating, including a vegetarian diet
Discusses sports nutrition and how to fuel your sports
Helps you with special medical diets such as a diabetic diet, low-fat, low-sodium, etc.
Works with students with eating disorders
Provides direction and resources for healthy planning and cooking
Community Resource:
Scheduling and attending medical and non-medical appointments
Connection to health insurance
Connecting to community resources including food and clothing
Home visits to check on wellbeing
Community Health Workers cannot help with:
- Paying for any of medication, or services
- Giving medical advice or care
Who is eligible?
- Students who are Medicaid-eligible or uninsured
and/or
- Students who are:
o Living with a chronic disease (e.g., asthma, diabetes)
o Living with a cognitive disorder (e.g.ADHD)
o Non-residents/Non-citizens
o Currently without a primary care doctor
o Currently without a recent physical or pregnant
