🎶 The Beat is Back: Delcastle Band Returns After Two Decades

The sound of music has returned to the halls of Delcastle Technical High School. For the first time in over 20 years, students gathered this summer to rehearse as part of the newly reestablished Delcastle Band, led by Director Ms. Kara Villanelli. From August 11–15, students filled the Auditorium daily from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for their first official week of rehearsals—bringing rhythm, energy, and excitement back to #CougarNation.

The relaunch of the Delcastle Band is more than just a return of a school tradition—it’s a commitment to the transformative power of music. Ms. Villanelli, who spearheaded the revival, shared her vision for the program:

“Bringing back the high school band after a two-decade absence was inspired by a deep belief in the transformative power of music education. The program aims to enrich the lives of students in numerous ways, building upon the well-documented benefits of musical participation. We hope to build the program in the coming years and expand to offer students multiple ensemble experiences throughout the school year.”

Beyond the stage, band participation has lasting effects on student development.

“Band can positively influence students' academic performance by enhancing cognitive abilities like memory, focus, and problem-solving skills,” said Villanelli. “It also fosters a sense of community, collaboration, and confidence. Ultimately, participation in band provides students a rich and multifaceted experience that extends beyond musical performance. And most importantly—it’s fun!”

Whether you’re a seasoned musician or picking up an instrument for the first time, the Delcastle Band is open to all students ready to make music, memories, and meaningful connections.
