Wednesdays – Flex Period

• Every Wednesday, we host a Flex Period for club and activity meetings.

• Students sign up for Flex in advance through the school portal each quarter.

• This dedicated time makes it easy to get involved—no need to stay after school!

After-School Options

• Monday–Friday: Many activities, including our Performing Arts (Theater, Band, Dance, Drumline) meet after school from 3:00-5:45 p.m.

• Mondays: We now offer a new 4:30 p.m. Activity Bus, providing even more opportunity for our groups to meet!

• Daily 6:00 p.m. Activity Bus (5:30 p.m. on Fridays): For students staying later for athletics, rehearsals, or leadership events. Click Here to find your Activity Bus Route.

At Delcastle, we believe that leadership is built through voice, service, and action. These organizations represent the heart of our student leadership, honoring academic and personal excellence while empowering students to shape the school community.

Student Council

Student Council represents the student body and leads major schoolwide initiatives like Homecoming, spirit weeks, service campaigns, and school events. Membership is by application at the beginning of the year. General members meet monthly, while elected officers take on advanced leadership roles.

  Each graduating class has a student-led council responsible for organizing class-specific events like fundraisers, send-offs, prom, and spirit gear. Class Councils play an active role in representing their peers and contributing to schoolwide leadership discussions.

National Honor Society (NHS)

NHS recognizes academic achievement, service, leadership, and character. Membership is by invitation only for students in grades 10–12 who meet GPA and faculty nomination requirements. Members engage in community service, tutoring, and campus initiatives.

National Technical Honor Society (NTHS)

NTHS honors students who excel in their technical programs and demonstrate strong leadership, work ethic, and integrity. Membership is by invitation only for 11th and 12th grade students. Members serve as ambassadors for Career & Technical Education (CTE) and support school and community events.

CTSOs connect classroom learning to real-world leadership and career experiences. At Delcastle, these nationally recognized organizations offer students the chance to grow as leaders, compete in industry-relevant events, serve their communities, and prepare for success beyond high school.

Participation is open to all interested students, with many opportunities tied directly to your CTE area of study.

SkillsUSA

SkillsUSA prepares students for careers in trade, technical, and service occupations through hands-on competitions, leadership training, and service-learning. Members can run for chapter office, attend leadership conferences like Elevate and Leverage, and compete in over 100 skill and leadership areas ranging from welding and electrical to customer service and public speaking. Open to all students, regardless of CTE program.

HOSA – Future Health Professionals

HOSA empowers students interested in health careers through leadership roles, community service, and competitive events in areas like medical assisting, CPR/first aid, pharmacology, and healthcare advocacy. Members gain exposure to real healthcare settings and learn professional skills to prepare for postsecondary training and careers in the medical field.

Educators Rising

Educators Rising supports students who are passionate about teaching, coaching, and mentoring. Members explore education as a career path through classroom projects, leadership development, competitions (such as Children’s Literature and Lesson Planning), and community service. Business Professionals of America (BPA)

BPA prepares students for careers in business administration, finance, information technology, and management. Members gain leadership experience, compete in judged and objective events (such as Graphic Design, Financial Math, and Video Production), and build workplace-readiness skills that align with industry certifications and college pathways.

DECA

DECA helps students interested in marketing, entrepreneurship, finance, and hospitality grow as leaders and innovators. Members participate in project-based competitions, chapter campaigns, and leadership events. DECA’s real-world simulations and roleplays prepare students for careers in business and give them a competitive edge in postsecondary programs.

Science Olympiad is a nationally recognized STEM competition where students compete in teams across a wide range of scientific disciplines—engineering, chemistry, biology, physics, and more. Events include hands-on building challenges (like bridge construction or flight) as well as academic testing. Science Olympiad promotes inquiry, critical thinking, and teamwork.

At Delcastle, leadership development is more than a title—it's a journey. Through events, conferences, and one-on-one mentoring, we empower students to grow as confident, service-minded changemakers.

Held each fall and spring, this student-led conference brings together all leadership groups for workshops, team-building, and planning for events that make a positive impact on school culture.

🏛️ Statewide Youth Leadership Program (SYLP) – University of Delaware

Select student leaders represent Delcastle at this twice-a-year leadership event, learning from state leaders, collaborating with students statewide, and building leadership confidence.

🏫 NCCVT District Leadership Days

Students connect with peers from Hodgson, Howard, and St. Georges to collaborate on district-wide initiatives that center equity, student voice, and innovation.

National LEAD Conference – Washington, D.C.

Each year, Delcastle sends students to the nation’s capital for this high-impact national leadership conference focused on advocacy, community service, and professional growth.

Delcastle’s E-Sports Team is a powerhouse in the rapidly growing world of competitive gaming. As part of the Delaware Scholastic Esports League (DSEL), our team competes against schools across the state in structured, high-level tournaments that build teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking.

In the 2024–2025 season, Delcastle’s E-Sports Team earned three state championships, solidifying our program as one of the best in Delaware.

Delcastle offers a wide variety of student-led and advisor-supported clubs designed to build community, spark creativity, and help students explore new interests. With options ranging from art and literature to wellness, history, STEM, and beyond, there’s something here for everyone.

Clubs meet either during Flex Period, after school, or both—depending on the group.

How Flex Period Clubs Work

• Flex Period takes place every Wednesday during the school day

• Students select one club or activity per quarter using Flextime Manager

• Each club runs for a 7-week cycle during Flex

• Many clubs also offer after-school meetings, special events, or ongoing projects

School Spirit & Student Life

Homecoming Week and Dance (October)
A week of spirit days, hallway decorating, games, and school pride—capped off by our Homecoming Dance, one of the most popular events of the year. Open to all grade levels.

Spirit Weeks & Pep Rallies
Throughout the year, we rally together as Cougars! Spirit Weeks include themed dress-up days, competitions, and building-wide celebrations that often lead into a high-energy Pep Rally featuring performances, games, and recognitions.

Winter Ice Ball Dance (February)
Our mid-winter semi-formal gives students a chance to dress up, dance, and celebrate friendship during the colder months.

Baile – Spring Dance (April)
A vibrant and inclusive cultural celebration hosted by our Latino student groups. The Baile features music, dancing, and food, and is open to all students and staff.

Senior Prom (May)
An unforgettable formal event for our graduating seniors, celebrating the close of their Delcastle journey in style.

Acceptance Day (March)
A celebration for all newly accepted 9th grade students and families. This special day includes tours, activities, and a welcome from student leaders to kick off their Cougar journey.

New Student Orientation (August)
An engaging event held before the school year starts to help incoming students and families meet staff, connect with student leaders, and feel confident entering high school.

Service & Leadership

Day of Service (December)
Our largest student-led service initiative of the year. On this day, clubs and career areas plan and participate in service projects that benefit the greater community, including drives, outreach events, and hands-on volunteering.

Holiday Giving Back & Community Service (December)
Delcastle comes together during the holiday season to support local families and nonprofits through donation drives, toy collections, food baskets, and community outreach.

CTSO State Competition Season (February–March)
Students in SkillsUSA, HOSA, Educators Rising, DECA, and BPA represent Delcastle at the Delaware State Leadership & Skills Conference. This season highlights our students' technical, leadership, and service skills.

CTSO National Competition Season (June)
Top state finishers advance to represent Delaware on the national stage—competing in events across the country and building leadership connections that last a lifetime.

Have an idea for a new club or activity? We want to hear it! At Delcastle, we believe students should shape the school they want to be part of. If you have a passion or idea not already represented in our current club offerings, follow the steps below to launch your own recognized student organization.

Creating a club is a great way to build leadership skills, connect with others, and give back to the Delcastle community.

Steps to Start a New Club or Organization

1. Find a Faculty or Staff Advisor
   Every student club must have an adult advisor who is a current Delcastle staff member. Choose someone who supports your club's mission and is available to attend meetings or events as needed.

2. Gather Interest from Students
   Your club must have at least 8–10 committed students to demonstrate sustainability. Collect names, student ID numbers, and grade levels of those who would actively participate.

3. Define Your Mission & Goals
   Write a short mission statement that clearly explains the purpose of your club. Then, outline 2–3 specific goals for the year (examples: host an event, run a fundraiser, start a campaign, compete, or build awareness).

4. Propose Meeting Times & Location
   Decide how often your club will meet—during Flex, after school, or both—and where meetings will take place. Confirm availability with your advisor and request space through the Activities Office if needed.

5. Identify a Way to Give Back
   Every approved club must give back to the school or greater community. Your group must complete at least one community service project, schoolwide campaign, or support initiative per school year.
   Examples:

   • Run a donation drive

   • Host a wellness or awareness event

   • Volunteer with a local nonprofit

   • Beautify the school with an art or gardening project

   • Assist another club or program with their project

6. Submit the Club Request Form
   Once you’ve completed the above steps, complete the New Club Proposal Google Form (linked below). You’ll be asked to submit your mission statement, list of interested students, proposed schedule, and community service plan.

7. Await Approval
   The Student Activities Office will review your proposal and contact you and your advisor. You may be invited to a meeting to review your plan and answer any questions.

8. Get Started!
   Once approved, your club will be listed as an official Delcastle activity. You’ll gain access to Flex scheduling, event promotion, and support from the Student Activities team.
